Terrible DSL

Monday, 3:40 pm. I instert the DSL installation CD, like so many times before, and flip through all the steps before getting to the one that makes sure I have the best connection speed.

It tries to activate, but I get the error message again. I click "Retry" a couple more times, then check the connection. I pick up the phone reciever and there are these modem sounds in it.

"That's not right…" I say. I switch around the wires, and decide to call the 1-877 number from the error message.

The phone rings. A recording (with good quality I might add) asks me what kind of problem I'm having and lists some choices. I say: "Installation." The recording then tells me that my DSL service hasn't been activated yet.

Now I'm kinda pissed (as if I wasn't before). They redirect me to a real person (southern accent). He tells me that my service hasn't been activated yet. Tell me something I don't know. So, I ask what time it will be active, but they don't know. Just that it's some time today, between now and midnight. I must say, he was pretty nice about it, but the fact that I didn't know exactly when the service would be activated annoyed me.

In the packet they send to you, they say they recommend you register with it as soon as the service is activated. But I tried at 12:30 am, and it wasn't yet active.

How is it possible to register as soon as possible if it isn't even active yet?

Well, now "we lie in wait, like humble Cassius for Noble Caesar…" (-Sideshow Bob)
