Bad DSL

Well, we ordered DSL right before June, and it was supposed to be activated on June 7, but SBC never sent us the kit. A week later, they still hadn't sent us the kit.

In the meantime, these commercials started airing on the first day of June that said you could get DSL for one year for $14.95 a month, as opposed to $19.95 a month earlier, when we signed up before June.

By this time, we were really pissed that we couldn't get it for $5 less than before. We pondered the idea of canceling the service, but there was a $200 cancelation fee. Then, we were also pissed about the kit not arriving on time.

That's when we called SBC, a week after our service was supposed to be activated (June 7th). The person we spoke with told us we weren't on the list of people who signed up for service. So, I suppose it was a bittersweet moment there. On the one hand, we didn't get our DSL. Somehow they didn't recognize that we had actually signed up. On the other hand, we could now sign up after June to get a $5 discount per month at $14.95 a month.

So, we signed up again for the service at $14.95 a month, and actually got a confirmation email. On the calendar screen of the sign-up, we were set to have the service activated on June 24. Perfect.

The kit arrived a bit early, a few days in fact, and so we waited until the day before the 24th to open it. On that day, we did in fact open it, and checked it out. Looked pretty cool.

Then on June 24th, I installed the hardware, and plugged the ethernet cord into my computer. Then the installer checked with the service, or modem or something, and said something wasn't right. It couldn't verify the service to ensure the best connection. So, I couldn't finish installing the DSL, and I can't use it.

As it tuns out, they must have called or emailed me and said the service would be activated on Monday the 27th instead of Friday the 24th. If they had told me that in the beginning, it would have been fine, but to change it in the middle, or right before, that ticks me off. Well, until Monday then.
